Art in daily life
We, in India, are a visually rich culture. We live with art objects every day without realising it. Rich handwoven textiles, wall painting in old mansions as well as in temples, and architectural beauty ranging from simple abodes of tribal people to lofty palaces are all deeply artistic expressions. Rangolis still adorn front yards of many houses to be made fresh every day. We Indians are aware of the ephemeral nature of art. And we are talking only of visual experience here. How then do some of us find it difficult to immerse ourselves in contemporary art scenarios unfolding right before our eyes? Not many of us are found visiting art galleries as a part of their weekend routine. It may seem that our ancestors lived a life more aesthetically rich with arts and craft as an essential part of everyday life. Which visual beauty did you get a chance to admire today?
